I have been in Florida for a long time, and let me tell you, I LOVE my small town. In Martin County, there are a lot of retirees that do most of the heavy-lifting of local volunteering, but there is a huge need for more volunteer hours of all ages. Here are a couple of local non-profit organizations that are doing great things, but could use any extra help and time you can give:

Habit for Humanity

I’m not just promoting Habitat for Humanity, the Martin County Chapter, because I’m on the board of directors, but because this is a really great organization to donate your time to. Not only do they build houses for families who may have never been able to financially be in a spot to buy a home, but they also are helping the environment by reselling donated appliances and furniture that may otherwise end up in our local dump. If you are looking to learn new skills, and a workout, you can sign up to learn how they build a home from the ground up for a family in need. If you are smart at math, there are opportunities like accounting, or if you are into customer service, try being a cashier at the thrift store!

Volunteers in Medicine Clinic

This is a local clinic run by volunteer nurses and doctors. They’ve helped thousands of local of people who cannot afford healthcare otherwise, and do not have health insurance. If you are a retired nurse or doctor, your volunteerism could be extremely valuable at VIM. If you or someone you know with a background in medicine is looking for a volunteer opportunity, try checking out VIM’s website, and reaching out to them today to help people in need.

The Humane Society

Maybe you are on the younger side and don’t have a background in medicine or have specialty yet, but looking to learn more for future jobs? The Humane Society in Palm City, Florida is a great way to donate time and energy for some furballs that need all the love you can give. Either spend time taking dogs for a walk, helping to clean cages, or help with the administrative side to build valuable experience for your resume. Plus, you get to be around cute animals during your time volunteering! Win-win!

Molly’s House

This organization is near and dear to my heart, and I try to donate my time here when I can. I have helped with construction projects around Molly’s House for years to try to help them maintain the home for people who are in need of a place while loved ones undergo testing and treatment at the hospital. It is down the street from Martin Memorial North, and provides a room, with a bed, and amenities like a shower, and bathroom, and daily cleaning. They are always looking for volunteers for the front desk, maintenance, yard work, and cooking.

If you are still looking for ideas to volunteer, or need help with getting more people on board to help you make the world a better and more peaceful place, check out my website that discusses all the benefits.
